A-G wants more in-depth probe into Kugan’s death-Malaysiakini

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail has asked police to investigate further and get more details into A. Kugan’s death in custody.

CID director Comm Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin said Abdul Gani had instructed the Investigating Officer Tuesday to probe further and record more statements.

“Based on the advice by the A-G’s Chambers, we will collect whatever is asked for before handing over the investigation papers back to them for further action,” he said.

Comm Bakri said the A-G had set no time frame for the next submission.

To a question, Comm Bakri said the 11 policemen who were allegedly involved in Kugan’s death would not be charged nor would disciplinary action be taken against them until there was sufficient proof to do so.

“Just because of public pressure and sentiments, we cannot disregard the rules, regulations and the law,” he said. “We will wait for the A-G to make a decision and leave it to the court to decide.”

Kugan, 22, died at the USJ police station in Subang Jaya on Jan 20. The case was initially classified as sudden death but Abdul Gani later advised the police to reclassify it as murder for investigation purposes.
